29th to 31st
May
Between
last week and this week not a lot happened or should I say nothing worth
mentioning.
This past
weekend was quite exciting as it was our second trip with the Humber students
and we ventured off to Taipei for the weekend.
We left the
school at 7:30am and arrived at our Taipei destination around 14:30. This was the area of ‘Pingxi Street’, which
is in the northern part of Taipei and well known for releasing paper
balloons. We spent a good hour and half
there while the students assembled their own personal balloon then released it.
It was then
off to Chiufen Village Old Street, which is an area that is one of the oldest
in the city and the street is or should I say should be, a pedestrian
street. Perhaps the width could be 3
metres and very winding up and down the hillside. Quite unique indeed and this is where we had
some dinner.
Off to
Taipei 101 for a spectacular night view of the city. It was a clear night so the viewing was good.
The
following day was filled with many activities and by the end, I think the
students were exhausted and I say this because it showed in their movement the
following morning…hahah
One of the
highlights was Sunday morning when we made a change in our itinerary and I
recommended to the tour guide we take the gondola and go up Makgong. I was there last February when my sister
visited during Chinese New Year.
The weather
in the morning was overcast and humid and looked like rain as the dark cloud
passed over.
The ‘hiccup’
in the venture was when the gondola shut down due to lightening. Now we need to take a bus down the mountain
but by this time, the buses were running regular schedule (1 every 15
minutes). This put at least a 1 hour
delay in our itinerary schedule. Because
of this delay, we didn’t make any stops going back to Kaohsiung because by this
time it was already around 2pm.
We arrived
Kaohsiung around 9pm Sunday night. It
was a great weekend.
