NKUHT Freshmen Singing Competition - 2nd October

2nd October
Today marks the first ‘special’ event at school for the freshmen students.  It’s the annual singing competition.  This entails all the sections of freshmen students and performing with the singing of the national school song plus a creative component that is left up to them.  There were 17 groups and the group of students from the area I teach in (bachelor of Chinese culinary – Paul’s program) was 6th for competing.
The competition normally takes place outside in the common grounds area on the stage but weather wasn’t looking promising so the gym was used instead.
I left after our program students since each group is similar but most of all it was getting too damn hot for me to bear with so many students in the gym.
From some of the photos I posted you will notice that many of the groups also add props, masks and/or face paintings to their skits.  This is the creative side of the component.  The national school song cannot be altered in anyway, so listening to each group becomes monotone after the first 3 or 4 groups.  The winning group receives a trophy and bragging rights for their department.
I remember from 2 years ago and also from the results this year, the F&B department seems to cleanup with winning.
Leading up to this day I would see and hear various groups of students gathered and rehearsing.  They take this competition very seriously.  The senior students from each group are usually the mentors and assist in various ways.
I’m not quite sure who the judges are but they are usually non-partial to the school and are invited to participate.

I left the event around 5pm but this would continue until all the groups are finished then the top 3 winning places would be announced.
